WOR-WIC Community College…a savvy little secret no more!

To add to the good fortune of those living in the Ocean City Maryland area there’s a savvy little secret situated to our west amongst the tall trees at the corner of U.S. Route 50 and Walston Switch Road. It’s the campus of WOR-WIC Community College – an institution of higher education/learning not only for individual growth but one that is growing! Recently announced figures show that enrollment for 2008 is up 15%. Especially today, with our ‘new’ economy, WorWic is proving the ability to not only meet but also surpass the ever growing demands of today’s student. For example, in FY 2008 the college showed an enrollment of 4,862 students (average age 26 years) enrolled in Credit courses with an additional 7,040 students (average age 40 years) opting for non-credit courses. Enough of the numbers – these facts prove that many people are not only looking for a degree or an opportunity for self-improvement but for a high quality and convenient source of continuing education – for workforce development and especially now, job retraining. One of the more interesting aspects of today’s Wor-Wic is the opportunity to take on-line courses, again both credit and non-credit, enabling the student to learn in a more relaxed, yet structured environment, a prescribed curriculum, tailored to his or her own time or distance constraints. A large variety of courses are taught via the World Wide Web. And the non-credit, “ed2go” program offered is a real boon to those who need to brush up or are just beginning to consider a new career path. Several times each year the college mails course catalogs to the residents of Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties – and, with today’s Internet technology all things education are possible to anyone, anywhere and at anytime! Check it out – for further information visit the Wor-Wic website at www.worwic.edu.
